Terms and Conditions for the Accelerated Reader Reading Competition
1. Eligibility:

Participants: The competition is open to all schools currently using Renaissance’s Accelerated Reader (AR) program.

Categories: The competition is divided into two categories:

Primary Schools

Secondary Schools
-
Geographic restrictions: The competition is only open to schools in Australia and New Zealand.
2. Competition Timeline:

Start Date: 4th November 2024 at 6:00 AM AEDT
-
End Date: 29th November 2024 at 5:00 PM Local Time Zone

Submission deadline: Teachers must submit word count reports by 9:00 PM AEDT, 29th November 2024.
3. Participation:
-
Registration: A nominated teacher must register the school via the competition landing page, providing all required details.

Eligibility requirements: Schools must be current Accelerated Reader customers.

Word count tracking: All reading data will be tracked using the Accelerated Reader system. Books read outside this platform will not be considered.

Fair Play: The goal of the AR Reading Competition is to spark and inculcate reading interest. Teacher’s are trusted to monitor their students’ reading data and encourage readers not to re-read books during the competition period. If they wish to re-read a given title, please do so outside of the AR system to avoid any duplication of data.
4. Prize Structure*:

Primary and Secondary categories:

School Champion prize: AUD $2,000 Renaissance credits for one Primary School category winner and one Secondary School category winner.

Class Prize:

Most words read by a class Pizza party with a cap of $300 for each school (includes pizza and drinks).

*For the avoidance of doubt, the Prize(s) are paid out to the school of the winning entrant. The Class Prize shall be paid to the respective Primary or Secondary school, with instructions that the gift card being issued is for the winning class. Upon the notification of their winning, prize winners will be required to sign and return a form issued by Renaissance before prizes can be awarded.
5. Determination of Winners:

Winners: Will be determined based on the most words read by students/classes/school as tracked by the Accelerated Reader system.

Tie-breaker process: In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined based on the higher average percentage correct, measuring reading accuracy.

Disqualification: Participants found cheating (e.g., uploading false reading numbers to the AR system) or failing to comply with rules will be disqualified.
6. Prize Distribution:

Announcement date: Winners will be announced on 4th December 2024.

Distribution method: Prizes will be distributed via email (gift cards), shipping (trophies), or coordination for pizza parties. All prizes, including Renaissance credits, must be claimed by the end of January 2025.

Renaissance Credit Expiration: Renaissance credits must be used within one year of distribution.
7. Winner Notification:

Notification: Winners will be notified via email on 10th December 2024. Winners will also be announced in the December newsletter and on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).

Prize claim: No specific claim deadline for winners. Renaissance will ensure gift cards and credits are delivered.
8. Data Collection and Usage:

Collected data: The competition will collect the names of participating schools and teachers, and their class word counts. The winning school’s and class’s names and total word count will be publicly disclosed. For the avoidance of doubt, when a winning class is publicly disclosed it will only be identified by the entering teacher’s last name (e.g. John Smith enters the AR Reading Competition for this Grade 3 class, and they win a class-level prize, the announcement will celebrate “Mr. Smith’s Grade 3 Class”. By joining the competition, you have given consent to disclose the listed above information publicly.

Prohibited data: At no point during or after the AR Reading Competition shall any student PII be uploaded or shared, including but not limited to student names, ages, addresses, etc.

Privacy and data use: Data collected will be used only for competition purposes and will not be shared with third parties for marketing or other reasons unless consent is provided.
9. Legal Considerations:

Liability disclaimer: Renaissance is not responsible for any issues arising from the delivery or redemption of prizes, including but not limited to delays, lost shipments, or technical difficulties with digital gift cards.

No waivers required: No additional waivers or disclaimers are required for participation.

Prize taxation: Winners are responsible for determining any taxation obligations associated with receiving prizes.

Right to modify: Renaissance reserves the right to amend or update the terms and conditions during the competition period, provided participants are notified of significant changes.
10. Dispute Resolution:

Any disputes or discrepancies in word counts or prize distribution will be resolved at the sole discretion of Renaissance, and its decision will be final and binding.
