What PISA can’t tell you

The latest PISA results show Australia’s reading score has fallen again, while the UK held steady. It’s a useful national snapshot, but it’s based on a sample of 15-year-olds, tested every three years. To understand reading in your own school, you need your own data, and that’s exactly what UK schools have been doing with NGRT.

The information you get from the NGRT is priceless. Without the individual student reports, we’d be going in blind, and it would take us a term to figure out what to do with a student.

The national picture is clear. Your school’s picture is what matters.

PISA tests a sample of 15-year-olds every three years. It tells us how Australia is tracking, but not which of your students are struggling, or why. By 15, it’s late to find out.

NGRT (New Group Reading Test) is a standardised, adaptive reading assessment that gives you that picture now, across your cohort and for every student.

Should we be looking to the UK?

While reading scores fell across much of the world in the latest PISA results, the UK held steady. More than 4,700 UK schools use NGRT to understand how their students are reading and act early. Now Australian schools can too.

Inside the sample report, you’ll see:

  • The big picture: How a cohort report highlights patterns and the students who need a closer look
  • The individual: What a student report reveals beyond a single score
  • From assessment to action: How schools use NGRT data to identify, investigate, support and monitor
