What results can you
expect from Accelerated Reader?

Significant improvement
Research consistently shows that structured, individualised reading practice leads to more substantial literacy outcomes and improved NAPLAN performance. A new study of thousands of Australian students found that those using Accelerated Reader (AR) were likelier to meet or exceed national benchmarks—primarily when AR was implemented using best practices.
Independent research by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and Durham University also found that AR produces “particularly positive effects” on student reading progress. Over just 22 weeks, students improved their reading age by three additional months, with low-income students gaining an impressive five extra months in the same period.
Students can make measurable literacy gains with as little as 15 minutes of reading a day. Download our latest research-backed report to learn how your school can harness the power of daily reading.
Valuable data
A comprehensive set of reports provides detailed insights into a student’s reading habits, the complexity of the texts they engage with, and their comprehension levels. These reports also measure vocabulary growth and literacy skills, helping teachers assess how effectively students are responding to reading programs and classroom instruction.

Motivational quizzes
Accelerated Reader gives students significantly greater choice in levelled books and quizzes than any comparable reading programme.
Over 36,000 reading practice quizzes are available on books from over 300 publishers and imprints. Independent of any publishing interests and suitable for students of primary and secondary age, AR ensures that there are plenty of books to interest every reader available on the programe.
Measurable growth
Research suggests time spent reading books is the best predictor of overall academic achievement, even more than socioeconomic status or ethnicity. Our study of 2.8 million students in grades 1-12 “Trends in Student Outcome Measures: The Role of Individualized Reading Practice” demonstrates that students using Accelerated Reader grew significantly more than students not using the program and were nearly twice as likely to be college and career ready.

Data-based individualisation at its best
Accelerated Reader provides a balance of independent reading practice with nonfiction reading and close-reading skills practice. Educators use this program to track students’ comprehension of books read independently and grade-level instructional reading practice. AR instantly scores each completed quiz and generates comprehensive data summaries, which help teachers guide students to appropriate reading material, monitor reading practice, and target instruction.
